Keeping saves, backups and PDFs apart

The editable original and the file you submit serve different purposes. Keep both.

Understand what device storage covers

Device storage applies to the current browser. After signing in, press “Save to account” in the editor or import device documents from the account screen, and you can restore your account documents on other devices and keep working. Signing in alone does not upload anything automatically. Keep a backup as well, in case browser data is cleared or the device is reset.

Backup files are for editing again later

Download a backup from My resumes and keep it somewhere safe. A backup is a plain-text .resume.json file that contains the personal information you entered. Do not upload it to shared folders or public repositories. Importing always creates a copy and does not overwrite existing documents.

Check the actual PDF file before submitting

Check your name, contact details, dates, links and every page. Make sure the text can still be searched and copied, and look at line breaks and page edges. The PDF is generated on the server; the browser print fallback can give different results depending on browser settings.

Practice recovering in advance

Practicing with a sample document, downloading a backup and importing it as a new document, will help if a real problem occurs. If an import fails, keep the original file, and do not edit or delete existing files until the error is resolved.
