A five-minute checklist before you submit

One small mistake can spoil the overall impression. Before you press submit, check these in order.

Click your contact details yourself

Check your email address and phone number for typos, and click your portfolio or repository links to confirm they actually open. Readers cannot see links that are set to private.

Line up dates and periods

Make sure start and end dates for experience and education use the same format throughout the document. If periods overlap or there are gaps, think in advance about how you would explain them.

Read it aloud once

Awkward sentences and repeated phrases that you miss when reading silently are easier to hear when you read aloud. If the same verb appears several times in a row, try a different word.

Open the final PDF on another screen

Open the PDF you are submitting on your phone or another device and check the fonts, line breaks, photo and page count. Including your name and the role in the file name makes the file easier for the recruiter to manage.
