A product manager's career description has to show decisions and outcomes, not a list of meetings. For each product initiative, state the problem, your role among designers and engineers, and the metric that moved after release. The reviewer should be able to tell which calls you made and what they led to.

Three keys to a Product Manager career description
01
Write each initiative as problem, action, result
Start each project with the problem in one line, then the key decisions you made and the measurable result. This PAR shape lets a reviewer follow your reasoning quickly, and it gives the interviewer a natural structure to ask follow-up questions about trade-offs.
02
Make your role explicit in a cross-functional team
PMs rarely write code or draw screens, so the reviewer needs to know what you owned. State the team size and composition, and describe your part in concrete verbs: defined the scope, ran 12 user interviews, prioritized the backlog, set the success metric.
03
Tie results to product metrics
Activation, retention, conversion and support volume are the language of product results. Attach a before-and-after figure and a time frame. When business numbers are confidential, use percentages or indexes rather than dropping the result entirely.
Rewrite result lines like this
BeforePlanned and launched a new onboarding flow.
AfterRedesigned onboarding from 7 steps to 4 after 15 user interviews, raising day-7 activation from 38% to 51% in 2 months.
Research input, the concrete change and the outcome metric show product judgment rather than a completed task.
BeforeWe collaborated closely with engineering and design to ship features.
AfterSet quarterly priorities for a squad of 6 engineers and 2 designers, shipping 9 of 11 planned items on schedule.
Team composition and delivery rate describe your role in collaboration more precisely than 'closely'.
BeforeImproved customer satisfaction through various feature updates.
AfterAdded in-app order tracking that cut 'where is my order' tickets by 42% and raised CSAT from 3.9 to 4.4.
Naming one feature and two metrics is more believable than a vague claim about 'various' updates.
Common mistakes
Describing the product's features instead of the decisions you made about them
Claiming full credit for launches built by a large team without stating your role
Using internal code names or acronyms the reviewer cannot decode
Leaving results out because the exact revenue figure is confidential
Frequently asked questions
What if a project was cancelled before launch?
Include it only if the decision itself was a result, for example stopping a feature after a test showed low demand and freeing 2 sprints for a higher-impact item. Describe the evidence and what the team did with the saved time.
How technical should a PM career description be?
Enough to show you understood the constraints: name the main systems or tools involved and any trade-offs you negotiated. You do not need to describe architecture, but a line on data tools you used for analysis helps for data-heavy roles.
Should I list every feature I shipped?
No. Pick the two or three initiatives per company with the clearest outcome and closest fit to the role. Group smaller improvements into one line with a combined result, such as '14 minor releases that lowered support tickets by 20%'.
